How GTrack calculates
GTrack turns the numbers you enter into estimates. It does not fetch stock prices, place trades, or know your broker's exact charges. Your broker's confirmation is always the final figure.
1. Your purchase
Purchase amount = shares × price paid per share
Purchase costs = fees you entered, or the estimate below
Total invested = purchase amount + purchase costs
2. Value now and an estimated sale
Current market value = shares × current price (entered by you)
Est. selling costs = estimate below (sale side, includes stock transaction tax)
Est. proceeds if sold = current market value − est. selling costs
Est. net gain or loss = est. proceeds − total invested
Return = est. net gain ÷ total invested
"Price change" on the slip is the unrealized change before any costs: shares × (current price − price paid). It is shown separately so costs are never counted twice.
Results are estimates if sold at the price you entered. They are not realized gains (money actually received) and they exclude dividends.
3. Trading-cost estimates
Each trade (buy or sell) is estimated as:
commission = max(trade value × commission rate, minimum commission)
VAT = commission × 12% (+ 12% of the PSE fee where the broker charges VAT on it)
PSE fee = trade value × 0.005%
SCCP fee = trade value × 0.01%
flat fee = per-trade platform fee, if any
STT = trade value × 0.1% (sales only)
Sources (checked ):
If you choose "I'll enter the exact fees I paid", GTrack uses your number for the purchase and still estimates the sale.
4. Viewing in another currency
Rates are written as 1 [your currency] = X [stock currency].
Invested in your currency = total invested ÷ rate on purchase date
Est. proceeds in your currency = est. proceeds ÷ current rate
Return in your currency = (1 + stock return after costs) × (rate on purchase date ÷ current rate) − 1
The stock effect and the currency effect multiply. For example, +10% on the stock and a 5% weaker peso give (1.10 × 0.95) − 1 = +4.5%, not +5%.
Rates come from the free public @fawazahmed0/currency-api dataset (mid-market). Each rate shows where it came from and its date: Market rate (fetched for that exact date), Reference rate (built into the app for that exact date), or Entered by you. If no rate exists for your purchase date, GTrack asks you to enter one; it never substitutes another day's rate.
5. Inflation and savings comparisons
years held = days from purchase date to price date ÷ 365.25
Real proceeds = est. proceeds ÷ (1 + inflation)^years
Real return = real proceeds ÷ total invested − 1
Savings value = total invested × (1 + savings rate × (1 − tax rate))^years
Real proceeds are in purchase-date pesos: what the proceeds could buy, measured in prices from when you bought. Savings interest is compounded yearly after tax, an approximation. The default rates are examples; enter the ones that apply to you.
6. Known limits
- Prices are entered by you and can be out of date. Each saved price shows when you last updated it.
- Fee schedules change and some brokers charge minimum commissions. Your confirmation slip is the authority.
- One purchase per holding for now. Multiple purchases (average cost) and dividends are planned.
- Before GCASH starts trading, any "current price" for it is hypothetical and is labeled as a simulation.
